The DCTC Blue Knights baseball team could not hold a lead in recent games against Anoka-Ramsey (April 16) and Ridgewater (April 17), losing both doubleheaders.
In the first Anoka-Ramsey contest, DCTC lost 9-4 – a game with “not many highlights,” according to Coach Kerry Lurken. In the second game in Anoka, Blue Knight standout pitcher Ross Metzger tossed a three-hitter through the fourth inning before giving up six hits, two walks and seven runs in the fifth frame. The final score turned out to be 9-7.
Lurken noted that the score before the fifth was 7-2 in DCTC’s favor. Highlights for the second game included Alex Miller (3 for 4) and Mike Latz (2 for 4, 3 RBI).
The next day, back on the Blue Knights’ home field, the team lost 12-5 in the first game, but showed some promise in the second contest.
After leading the second game 1-0 through five innings, the Blue Knights gave up one run to tie the game, and another two in the seventh to lose 3-1.
Lurken said Blue Knights pitcher Steve Kleppen was throwing a three-hitter going in the seventh, only to walk the first two batters.
“After a fly-out the runners advanced on a passed ball, and Ridgewater had a clutch hit to bring in two runs and win the game,” he said. “I was very disapointed because we should have won the game.”
Second game highlights included Alex Bruess (3 for 4, 1 RBI) and Jonah Lansing (2 for 3).
Also in recent results, the Blue Knights lost both games of a doubleheader to North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, Iowa on April 14 by the scores of 14-2 and 10-0.
