In what was perhaps their best win of the season, the DCTC women’s soccer team played a solid 90 minute game to defeat a strong Macalester JV squad 4-1 Wednesday night.
Avenging an earlier 2-0 loss at Macalester, the Blue Knights scored three second-half goals in a 12-minute span to break a 1-1 halftime deadlock.
“This was our most solid game to date” said Blue Knights Head Coach Cam Pagani after the game. “Not only did we respond well coming out of halftime, we controlled the entire half by denying the Scots of any real chances while keeping constant pressure on the attack.”
Overall, DCTC outshot the Scots 15-6. Sheena Lien led the way, scoring two goals and assisting on another. Hillary Keefer kept her stats fresh with the game-winning goal. Rachel Jones also scored a goal, while Rebecca Noonan tallied two assists against a Macalester JV team that had tied 14th-ranked Iowa Central four days before.
The win raised DCTC’s season record to 13-4 as it prepares for its season finale against North Iowa at 7 p.m. on Friday at Johnny Cake Ridge Park in Apple Valley. Then, the Blue Knights have home-field advantage for the NJCAA Region 13 Championship on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 5 p.m. in Apple Valley.
DCTC is currently ranked 15th in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll www.nscaa.com.
