Jones scores on her first touch after three weeks on injury list
After being sidelined for 18 days with a stress fracture in her lower leg, DCTC’s Rachel Jones was clearly eager to get back into the game. Within moments of her first appearance in nearly three weeks, Jones scored to knot the match at 1-1 following a 40-yard, far post throw-in by Blue Knight Melinda Lien.
DCTC went into halftime tied at two before scoring three unanswered goals in the second half. Buoyed by Jones’ return, DCTC played a near flawless second half with a strong and consistent attack. Jones also scored DCTC’s fifth goal of the game en route to a 5-2 Blue Knights win.
DCTC’s next home match is Thursday, Oct. 9 against Gustavus Adolphus at 4 p.m. on the North Field at Johnny Cake Ridge Park (142nd Street and Johnny Cake Ridge Road) as local high school playoff games will be occupying the stadium field. There is no admission fee for Blue Knight Soccer games. The Blue Knights move back into the stadium on Saturday, Oct. 11 to take on North Iowa Area Community College at 7 p.m.
