Blue Knights Split Two-Game Road Trip In Iowa

The DCTC Blue Knights women’s soccer team traveled to Iowa this past weekend, coming away with a convincing win and a tough loss against two NJCAA opponents.

On Friday, in Mason City, DCTC stormed out and took a commanding 3-0 lead over North Iowa Area Community College. Rebecca Noonan was assisted from Sheena Lien on all three goals.

DCTC was able to play its entire bench for the rest of the game while swapping goals with NIACC for the remainder of the day. DCTC won the match by a healthy 7-3 margin.

On Saturday, the Blue Knights saw a more difficult opponent in Iowa Central at Fort Dodge. A strong wind contributed to difficult conditions in the rematch of teams which played earlier in the year in Apple Valley. In that match, DCTC won 3-2 over a team that had been in the 2002 national tournament.

This time, it was the Tritons of Iowa Central that came out on top. Iowa Central scored first on a corner kick header. The Blue Knights were then unable to capitalize on many chances to tie the game before halftime.

An early second half goal gave Iowa Central a 2-0 lead before DCTC began attacking with force and a strong wind at its back. Heidi Timm scored her first goal of the season after a Sheena Lien corner kick. The Blue Knights continued to pound the Iowa Central side, but came up short in the end, losing 2-1.

The weekend split gives DCTC a sound 7-2-0 record halfway through its inaugural season. The Blue Knights next travel to Macalester College in St. Paul (Tuesday at 7 p.m.) and Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter (Thursday 4 p.m.).
