The nationally ranked Dakota County Technical College women’s soccer team defeated Bethany Lutheran 3-0 Wednesday night in a wind-swept home match at Johnny Cake Ridge Park.
With the win, the Blue Knights, placed at #15 in this week’s NJCAA rankings, secured a home playoff game in the NJCAA Region 13 championships in October.
Rebecca Noonan, Sheena Lien and Rachel Jones all scored in the win over Bethany while Mandy Stockton earned her third shutout and fourth win of the season. With the goal, Noonan is now ranked 45th in the nation (out of 3,000 players) in scoring with eight goals and one assist. Stockton is ranked 20th in goalkeeping (out of 155 teams) with a 1.4 goals against average.
DCTC, now 5-1 overall, is unbeaten (4-0) facing other two-year/NJCAA institutions. The victory over Bethany Lutheran concludes a season sweep of the only other NJCAA Division I team in the four-state region (NJCAA 13). The winner of the Region 13 championship match in Apple Valley next month will advance to the NJCAA District playoffs and face the top 32 teams in the nation.
The Blue Knights have 12 regular season matches left to play, with the next five on the road. DCTC takes on St. Olaf in Northfield at 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22.
