Mandy Stockton made seven saves and Rachel Jones scored her first two goals to help DCTC beat Rochester Community and Technical College 4-0 on Wednesday. The win was the third-consecutive road shutout for the Blue Knights. The team, in its inaugural season, remains undefeated, and has outscored its three opponents 15-0 thus far.
DCTC scored 20 minutes into the match when Jones put away a pass from Gina Heggelman. DCTC jumped up by two when Hillary Keefer scored on an assist from Breanne Wolters (Minneapolis).
The second half began with a strong wind at DCTC’s back. The Blue Knights went up 3-0 when Heggelman hooked up Jones for the second time at the 63-minute mark. Becca Noonan capped off the scoring scoring her fifth goal of the young season when Hillary Keefer passed her the ball with two minutes remaining. DCTC controlled much of the play and out-shot Rochester 27 -6 of which eight shots hit the crossbar.
DCTC plays its first home game this Friday (Sept. 5, 4:00pm) when Iowa Central visits Apple Valley’s Johnny Cake Ridge Park Soccer Stadium (142nd and Johnny Cake Ridge Road).
The game should be a good test for the Blue Knights as the Tritons of Iowa Central are currently ranked ninth in the country (NJCAA Division I) and were a 2002 National Tournament team.
Note: The Blue Knights team hopes to attract a good audience at its home games, held at Johnny Cake Ridge Park in Apple Valley. Attendance is free of charge and concessions will be available.
