Living in the frozen tundra can have it’s benefits. What are they you ask? Sledding, snow men, snow forts, hot cocoa, snowmobiling, skiing, etc. Many people continue to bike and run in the cold weather. In fact, the Minneapolis/St. Paul area was recently named one of the fittest cities.
With the recent frigid blast(s) that we’ve been receiving, I’m really looking forward to spring (ie warmth & sun). Spring also brings about new growth and fresh new colors surrounding the landscape.
Here’s an activity I recently found that will help brighten up the classroom and prepare the children for what’s to come- SPRING! In Lieu Of Preschool posted about their Rainbow Pour Painting Flower Pots and they are gorgeous! Click on the link to see documentation of the entire project, step by step. Of course, after they’ve painted them, they’ll be motivated to plant flowers in them. This is a great example of how art and science can be used together. Just think of all the language/vocabulary that can be used. The children could also journal (by drawing or writing) about their pots…how many colors they used, what designs it created, compare/contrast with one another, etc. Once they plant the flower seeds, they could document the growth patterns. Here comes spring and lots of learning!
