Early Childhood Parent Aware Specialist

Position Summary: To support, coach and provide resources to parents, providers, and the community in the areas of child caring and early childhood.  Promote Parent Aware Quality Rating and Improvement system.  Recruit and coach licensed caregivers to achieve a Parent Aware Star rating. Promote quality care and school readiness.

Timeline: Temporary February – June 2013, hours 20- 40 hours weekly.  Regular employment may be obtainable in July.

Essential Accountabilities:

  • Promote Parent Aware using standardized tools to parents, providers and community members
  • Recruit providers to participate in the Parent Aware program
  • Provide quality coaching and technical assistance to licensed child care providers using required tools and resources which includes home visiting, information sessions,
  • Record activities on required data bases and submit reports as required by Department of Human Services, funders and CAP.
  • Attend all required trainings to obtain and maintain Parent Aware Coach 1 status.
  • Participate in Child Care Aware of Minnesota state-wide, district, Department of Human Services and CAP meetings as required.

Qualifications:  BA/BS in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Family Education or a related degree.  Previous experience or knowledge of child caring systems including licensed family child care, child care centers. Have previous experience with home visiting, adult learning methods, coaching and or consultation in the early childhood field. Candidate must possess the aptitude to assess and respond to difficult caregiving situations, and effectively develop relationships with caregivers through excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; qualified candidates will have experience working independently and demonstrate flexibility. Be able to work a flexible schedule with limited weekend and evening hours and some out of town travel.  Have the ability to complete detailed, time specific assessments and work plans. Must be able to lift and carry approximately 35 pounds of materials/equipment, and have access to reliable transportation.
