Dr. Harvey Karp

Welcome to 2013! Our first guest speaker of the new year is Dr. Harvey Karp, a nationally renowned pediatrician and child developmentalist. The popularity of his work has made him America’s most read pediatrician! 

Dr. Karp is on the faculty of USC School of Medicine and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Karp’s books and DVDs, The Happiest Baby on the Block, The Happiest Toddler on the Block, and his newly released The Happiest Baby Guide to Great Sleep, reveal to parents the surprising solution to the 3,000- year medical mystery “What is colic?” Plus he shares simple techniques to quickly boost sleep, eliminate tantrums and increase the patience, cooperation and self-confidence of children birth to 5 years of age.


Dr. Karp’s work is translated into over 20 languages and used in programs to strengthen families, reduce child abuse, prevent postpartum depression, etc. Thousands of certified Happiest Baby educators teach his approach to baby calming and increased sleep to new parents across America and many other nations.

He is an advisor to Parents, Ser Padres and American Baby magazines and a pediatric expert on BabyCenter. His work is frequently featured on Today Show, Good Morning America, The View, Dr. Oz, Dr. Phil and by the Associated Press, New York Times, Time, Newsweek, People Magazine, etc. Scholastic Magazine listed him as one of the “Top 10 Influencers on the American Family.” Reporting on his landmark ideas, the New York Times proclaimed, “Roll over Dr. Spock!”

In addition, Dr. Karp is an expert in breastfeeding and pediatric environmental health. He has been a spokesman on environmental issues for the NRDC, AAP, California Department of Health, and was a founding board member of Mothers and Others for a Livable Planet and Healthy Child, Healthy World. He currently serves on the board of the Environmental Working Group.

Dr. Karp lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Nina. Their adult daughter lives in New York City.
