Eric Wardell, the Writing Center tutor, points out that plagiarism is a subject that students are expected to both understand and avoid—yet faculty rarely have time to cover plagiarism in great detail during precious classroom time. Students unfamiliar with all the rules regarding plagiarism often don’t ask the questions needed to get answers that will help them steer clear of situations that can result in consequences as sever as expulsion or litigation. The Plagiarism Seminar is a proactive way to dispel the confusion surrounding plagiarism by defining what it is and learning the best ways to avoid it.
