Attend the 14th Annual Kente Summit and Celebrate Black Excellence

Attend the 14th Annual Kente Summit! Are you a DCTC student interested in celebrating Black excellence and exploring unconventional spaces? Then you won’t want to miss the 14th Annual Kente Summit! This in-person event, taking place on Friday, February 28th and Saturday, March 1st, is a fantastic opportunity to:

  • Hear from inspiring keynote speakers
  • Participate in engaging workshops
  • Network with other students and professionals
  • Enjoy performances and entertainment

Theme: Black Excellence in Unconventional Places

This year’s summit focuses on the theme of “Black Excellence in Unconventional Places,” highlighting the achievements of Black people in fields that are often not associated with our community.

Event Details for the 14th Annual Kente Summit

  • Friday, February 28th: Macalester College (Weyerhaeuser Hall)
  • Time: 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM
    • Schedule:
      • 4:00 PM – Pre-mixer/registration
      • 4:45 PM – Welcome
      • 5:00 PM – Icebreaker
      • 5:40 PM – Trivia
      • 6:00 PM – Dinner and entertainment
      • 7:00 PM – El-Kati Lecture with Professor AndrĂ© Carrington, “Revenants and Terminators: Motives for Black Speculative Fiction”
  • Saturday, March 1st: University of St Thomas (McNeely Hall)
  • Time: 8:30 AM to 2:45 PM (Optional bus tour starts at 8:30 AM)
    • Schedule:
      • 8:30 AM (Optional): Bus tour (limited to 20 participants, additional fee applies)
      • 10:15 AM – Morning workshops
      • 11:15 AM – Panel discussion: The Black experience: Overcoming challenges
      • 12:15 PM – Lunch and networking
      • 1:15 PM – Afternoon workshops
      • 2:10 PM – Closing remarks and takeaways
      • 2:45 PM – Depart

Who Can Attend the 14th Annual Kente Summit

The Kente Summit welcomes all undergraduate college students. Staff and faculty are encouraged to join alongside their students. Registration is required for all attendees.

Registration

The registration fee is $50 per person and covers both days of the event. Registration opens on January 15th and closes on Thursday, February 24th. You can find more information at MNPrivateColleges.org.

Funding Available for DCTC Students

There is funding available to help DCTC students cover the cost of attending the Kente Summit.
