ABOUT THE EVENT:
While conversations around “diversity and inclusion” are prevalent in the current higher education landscape, the need to transform our higher-ed institutions into spaces that foster true, authentic belonging has never been more critical, particularly given the historical investments being made to support equitable access.
“Racial Equity in Action: Building Campuses of Belonging,” a spring convening co-hosted by MnEEP and Minnesota State, aims to foster transformative conversations and insights that extend beyond the traditional boundaries of “diversity and inclusion” to prioritize belonging and racial equity as foundational pillars of Minnesota’s higher education system.
This collaborative convening offers an essential opportunity for higher education leaders, faculty, staff, students, and advocates to forge powerful cross-sector collaborations; build meaningful connections; and gain the collective knowledge, skill, and will be essential for advancing racial equity, belonging, and academic success for students who are people of color and Indigenous (POCI).
Areas of discussion will include:
1. Racial Equity & Belonging: What does “belonging” mean? What does it look like in practice? Why does it matter?
2. Building Knowledge & Capacity: Critical policies, and advocacy actions for centering belonging, advancing racial equity, and increasing higher-ed retention and success for POCI students.
3. Promising Practices for Transformation & Progress: Race equity leaders from Minnesota State will share insights, actions, and effective strategies for increasing access, retention, belonging, and success for POCI students.
Why Attend?
By participating in this convening, attendees become an integral part of a movement to build racially equitable higher education institutions in Minnesota. Through shared knowledge and learning, collaborative actions, and a unified commitment to racial equity, we aim to catalyze systemic change together — ensuring our colleges and universities do more than promise diversity and inclusion but also build transformative spaces of belonging that honor the needs, voices, experiences, and aspirations of POCI students.
