Internships
The Marketing and Sales Program at DCTC requires an internship completion for the AAS degrees: Marketing Design Specialist, Business Marketing Specialist, and Sales Management Specialist.
Requirements for Internship: A student is required to complete 48 hours of marketing or sales-related work during an internship for each credit of internship he or she enrolls. For the typical three credits of internship, this would equal 144 hours of marketing and sales-related work.
A student must seek approval of the internship before he or she starts working at an internship site. A form needs to be filled out indicating what responsibilities or skills the student will gain through the internship. The form needs to be signed by the intern, internship supervisor, and approved with signature by the DCTC instructor overseeing the internship.
Upon completion of the internship, on the internship form initially filled out, the internship supervisor must give a grade for each of the responsibilities listed on it. The form then must be returned to the DCTC instructor overseeing the internship by the deadline date given in order for an overall grade to be assigned to the experience and to the student’s transcript.
A student is encouraged to seek out an internship on his or her own. This helps the student in two ways – developing important job seeking skills and getting an internship within an industry, company, and/or geographic location that the student wants. However, if the student would like leads on internships, he or she should contact the Marketing and Sales Department for details. This blog also offers postings of possible internships sites.
Please note that a student should have enough marketing and/or sales skills developed through DCTC courses before seeking an internship. The program advisor, carie.statz@dctc.edu, can help the student determine if he or she is ready for an internship.
