SEASON OF FINALS GREETINGS!
Hello fellow travelers on this road we call higher education. How has your term been? Have you worked hard all semester and are ready for your final tests or have you just been sliding by? Either way, the end is near.
First off I would like to offer some encouragement to you all to finish the term strong. Take time to get in some extra studying so you won’t get sideswiped by finals. It’s like being extra good for Santa so you won’t get coal in your stocking. Find others in your classes (remember the friends you should have made by now) to study with. Even if you’re not sure it doesn’t hurt to ask if they want a study buddy.
Next, stay away from parties and alcohol until the term is done. Wait until the tests are over to have that celebration, and DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE! Again it’s the perfect time to phone a friend. Stay focused on the prize that an education will bring and wait to celebrate.
This is also the time of year when we look both forward and back. Are you signed up for spring classes? Are you looking forward to finishing like I am? Even if you don’t have a five year plan in place for your life, focusing on a better future for yourself and your family is always a good thing. If putting that plan into action is putting you into a depression and the future is only dark and murky, talk to a counselor or your advisor. They can help you find the focus you may need.
As for looking back…..look back but don’t obsess. Use your past experiences to make your future self stronger. Take the good and the bad and learn from both. It’s not about the naughty or nice list, but about moving forward while using the past to build your future. Memories, both sweet and sour, help shape who we become, but they are not the only thing. Turn your actions now into good memories for later.
Final thoughts. I hope all of you get the chance to enjoy all the joy that this time of year can bring. After finals are done there will still be time to give to others and share, even if all you can is give is time. For in giving of ourselves we connect with others and the world outside of school.
Wishing you all peace joy and love!
